Community Newsletter - May

Updated: May 12

Due to a period of absence and an extra heavy workload, plus other necessary processes i.e. signatories for changes to the banking, and several other important issues that have taken time to rectify, also a catch up on all of the previous HOC/HOA documentation, as you can see, we have been very busy. Hopefully we can now resume our monthly newsletter.

The first of our Forum’s took a while to prepare. A huge thanks for the efforts of Keith, Carol, Di, Sue and the huge effort from our treasurer Colin Bridge, and Nic who is our constitution expert, we can now start to breathe a little easier.

Items arising from the Forum were discussed at the last HOC meeting and the outcomes will be presented where necessary. The next Forum will be held on Saturday 25th of July at 2.00 pm. Afternoon tea will be provided.  Make sure you put it on your calendar.

We are happy to announce that a grant from the Gold Coast council of $2,277.00 for the purchase of a Defibrillator has been approved. Thanks go to Sue Parry for organizing the grant application. A big thank you to Sue. The unit will be installed in the Sky bar area once it has arrived.

Unfortunately, the Green Bus rules will now revert to the original "user pays". There were some trips done where the Bus had not been refuelled after use, The bus will be fully fuelled and then the new rule applies.

The Buggy has proved to be a great asset, and we have 7 volunteer drivers to operate it for pick up and drop off (when the weather is inclement, or there is an event) and residents require a lift to the clubhouse. A few more volunteer drivers would be welcome.

A meeting between two Bar supervisors and two members of the HOC took place to discuss the bar opening times. An agreement was reached for a 1-month trial of a new roster to commence on Monday 11 May when the roster will be posted.

The Bar opening hours will be as follows Mondays and Tuesdays both the sky bar and the Vibe will be closed. Stocktake and deliveries will occur on both days.

  • SKY BAR Wednesday - 5.00PM to 9.00 Pm (Subject to change.)

  • SKY BAR Thursday     - 4.00PM to 6.00 pm

  • VIBE BAR Friday          - 3.30 PM to 8.00PM

  • SKY BAR Saturday     - 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM

  • SKY BAR Sunday         - 2.00 PM to 5.30 PM

These hours will be in operation for one month, and then a decision will be made regarding maintaining or adjusting operating hours, depending on profitability. Bar training procedures were reviewed, with recommended changes noted for future implementation. The footy tipping comp will continue in the sky Bar.

Just a reminder, we need more volunteers to staff the bars so if you’re interested, contact either Nic Loizou or Barry Gill to lodge your name.

ANZAC Day was celebrated with a good attendance, and the organizing committee did a great job. We had the pleasure of GemLife's Dan Smith’s Company, and his feedback re the presentation was very positive. Thanks to all who made the day just that little bit more pleasurable.

There have been some terrific events over the past month or so, and another huge shout out goes to our social and entertainment committee volunteers under the guidance of Kay Wilson with assistance from HOC member Sue Parry. The Hawaiian night was a huge success, and fun was had by all.

Reference to the Dart boards: their installation has been approved for the Sky Lounge and will hopefully be set up soon.

Unfortunately, the Poker table hasn’t been approved, but there will be some ongoing conversation to try and review the decision.

The travel Talks have proved to be a big hit with great numbers in attendance   Over 30 Raffle Prizes on offer.

Mother’s Day Morning Tea was a great hit with the ladies all enjoying a glass or two of bubbles, and a cornucopia of assorted goodies to help expand the waistlines. (ha ha ha). Trevor Rix provided the background music with some classic numbers, and he received a rousing round of applause and appreciation from the ladies.

A couple of shots of the lovely Mums enjoying the morning.
