Newsletter - June 2nd Edition

Hello residents, here is another edition of our Newsletter; hopefully you are finding the contents informative and interesting.

To date we have enjoyed several events in our auditorium. The highlight so far, was the fantastic black and white Masquerade Ball. Congratulations and accolades to Kay Wilson and her team of wonderful social committee volunteers for the wonderful decoration of the auditorium and the table settings. I’m sure you’ll all agree that it was a memorable night. The music provided by the great duo Father and Son kept everyone up tripping the light fantastic. The new buggy came in very handy for transporting our masked guest from their residences to the clubhouse, and returning them safely, although some were slightly tipsy.

Kay Wilson and her team are now preparing for the Christmas in July function. It was unbelievable to see the tickets sell out in record time, so I’m pretty sure it’s going to be another fabulous event for everyone. I’m sure the social committee would appreciate a few more volunteers to assist with the preparations so why not contact Kay and ask the question.

The HOC recently held a meet and greet session for our newer residents in the Sky Lounge. Several members of the HOC were present, Sue Parry passed on lots of information and our hoc president Keith Tonkies gave a lengthy talk on our facilities and what is in the wings for the Games. Kay Wilson was also in attendance, and the social committee provided some light refreshment. A short Q&A session was held at the end of the presentation. Another session will be held for the next group of new residents. We hope the new residents enjoyed the get together and found out a little more about our lovely village, and the facilities available to them.

We were also treated to another round of BINGO with Tina and her volunteers checking the winning Tickets. Congratulations to all the winners.

On Sunday 14th there was a small group of Trivia Players on hand. There was a mixture of 10 guess that tune questions, those were performed by Marg Downey at the Piano, Thanks Marg, and 20 other general knowledge questions posed. Prizes of Puzzle books were awarded to the 6 lucky winners, and thankyou everyone for your kind donations.

How lucky were Tim and Christine Warren from villa 185, taking out the $300.00 Jackpot Villa draw. Tim and Christine are relatively new residents and are already enjoying the facilities, as well as being new members of the bar volunteer team, Thank you both.

There were hearing test appointments held on the 17th for those folks who may have hearing difficulties, let’s hope any problems are now solved, and you’re now able to hear the significant other half’s requests.

There’s a bit of a problem with library donations. Some people are dropping bags and boxes of very well used books, magazines and other well-worn items that are of no use to the Librarian. The library isn’t a dumping ground for items that could be deemed rubbish. If you could place these items in your recycle bin it would be much appreciated by the library staff.

A message to our Doggy owners, an article was posted to Face Book regarding the doggy Poo issue. Please observe the polite thing to do when you’re out exercising your pet, and if your animal decides it needs to evacuate it bowel PICK UP THE POO. It’s your pet and your responsibility to do the right thing. Don’t leave it for others to clean up.

How good to see the street lights along the walkway working thanks goes to Tony for getting them illuminated. It certainly makes walking feel a lot safer. It’s good to see the garden guru’s steadily getting the gardens mulched up.

After a discussion with Tony, it appears that the tennis court will be getting swept within the next few days, keeping our tennis players happy and making for a fair competition with a surface with an even bounce.

If you see anything around the resort that you think needs attention, don’t hesitate to contact the HOC so we can pass on any issue to Tony. It's great to see that our Visitors and delivery drivers now have a map to refer to when trying to find your villa.

The construction of the pavilion is well under way, and fingers crossed it will be completed by the start of the GemLife games. If you haven’t had a look to see the progress pop up and have a gander perhaps when taking the dog for a walk.

The food truck will be here again of Friday the 19th of June, Selling their delicious Taco’s. So come along and support this activity, if we don’t, we may lose their participation.

Saturday 20th there’s the 70’s & 80’s Birthday Bash. It’s a BYO event so bring along a plate and join the fun. Everyone is welcome.

Sunday 21st June, Tina and her trusty team of volunteers will be conducting Bingo which will commence at 1.00 pm $10 per ticket of 5 games, who knows you may win the big jackpot.

Wednesday the 24th of June, there will be a session of Line dancing commencing at 10am until 12 pm So get into your boot scooting gear and come along for 2 hours of fun and laughter.

No wrong moves in Line Dancing – just variations.

Friday the 26th of June, we have our Birthday cake night. If you’ve celebrated your birthday During the Month of June, come along and let us celebrate your special day again.

The HOC has been negotiating with Chubb to have a fire drill training session for residents; we will also be looking for volunteer Fire wardens, more information on this will be forth coming. Once a date and time has been arranged, we will let you know the details.

An approval has been sought from GemLife management to supply 2 lockable refrigerators, 1 for each Bar. This will alleviate some of the current storage issues being experienced by the Bar Staff Volunteers. And they’ll be an asset to the bars particularly for the GemLife Games.

Last Friday a great little bowls event took place in our lawn bowls facility. 12 Ladies from Halcyon Greens came for a game of bowls with our GemLife inaugural Ladies Team. Unfortunately, we could only field 8 team members but that didn’t deter the ladies, as they joined forces and had a very friendly game. GemLife ladies provided a lovely morning tea, and everyone agreed that our team should visit Halcyon Greens for a return match I the near future.

If there is something of interest that you would like to add to the newsletter, I would be happy to include it in the next issue. You may have a significant anniversary or birthday that deserves a mention, or a specific issue that you would like to advise the residents about. Perhaps you’ve had a good experience with a Tradie, or someone that has helped you and they deserve some recognition. You can contact me by email bazzagill@bigpond.com or drop a note into our mailbox 124.

Cheers to all from the HOC/HOA - Barry Gill
